CATONSVILLE, MD -- A "Quacktacular" Wednesday, October 14, Lucky Duck Race will see Charlestown retirement community residents participate with 350 rubber ducks to raise money for the community's Benevolent Care Fund, which helps residents who experience an unforeseen change in their financial situation for reasons beyond their control.
This unusual 10-minute race will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Fitness/Aquatics Center at Charlestown, 715 Maiden Choice Lane, in Catonsville.
Residents from Charlestown's Water Aerobics Group will jump into a 25-meter-long, 5-feet-deep pool and race 350 rubber ducks, which have been sponsored by staff and non-swimming residents with pledges of $5 to $10.
A chain in the pool will be made with swim noodles. All the ducks will be put in the pool and the residents will create a current to push the ducks to the other end. When they get to the last drain they will stop and the first three ducks to touch the pool will be the winners.
Winners will receive the following:
1st Place: Prize basket valued at $200.
2nd Place: Prize Basket valued at $100.
3rd Place: One-hour massage gift certificate.
The Fitness/Aquatics Center will be in Luau décor, with scores of onlooking staff and residents dressed in Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts and necklaces to cheer on the swimmers.
