Charlestown Commemorates National Nurses Week

May 21, 2012

Breakfast event celebrates diversity of career opportunities in nursing profession

CATONSVILLE, MD---It's been said that nurses are the heart of health care.  At a commemoration of National Nurses Week, everyone at Charlestown heartily agreed.
Sixty-five residents who are retired or active nurses shared memories and celebrated the diverse career opportunities of the profession during a breakfast celebration at the City Lights banquet room.
"It's been my experience that nurses perform their work not for the next paycheck but for the next person to care for," stated Timothy Sanna, Director of Extended Care at Charlestown.  "Nursing is one of the most respected and beloved professions in the world.  Universally, they share their time on weekends, holidays, and all hours of the day to change the world for the better."
The Erickson Living retirement community employs approximately 400 nursing staff at its campus, including registered nurses (RNs), licensed practical nurse (LPNs), geriatric nursing assistants (GNAs), certified nursing assistants (CNAs) and certified medication assistants (CMAs).
Charlestown also partners with the Community College of Baltimore County-Catonsville School of Nursing, the University of Maryland School of Nursing and the Coppin State University Helene Fuld School of Nursing serving as a clinical site that offers educational resources and mentorship opportunities.
