CATIONSVILLE, MD (May 17, 2016) -- Charlestown retirement community resident Ms. Kasuda this week received the Community Assistance Network, Inc.'s 2016 "Community Service Award" given in recognition of her ongoing support of Westside Men's Shelter through her volunteerism with the Rotary Club of Catonsville and Charlestown's Diversity & Inclusion Council. She has assisted with coordinating financial donations for the shelter and raising donations of supplies and food for its Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday events.
Westside Men's Shelter houses about 120 men every night. "It is with the support of volunteers like Pat that we are able to serve the men and provide the necessary resources that they need," said Megan Goffney, Director of Homeless and Housing Services for Community Assistance Network, Inc.
Born and raised in western Pennsylvania, Kasuda graduated from Belmar High School and attended Uniontown Hospital School of Nursing. Upon marrying her husband, John, she relocated to Glen Burnie, Maryland and resided in Anne Arundel County for 49 years. She has dedicated her personal and professional life to helping others. Some of her community activities have included: holding various offices in school PTAs, Den Mother for Club Scout Pack 911, Chaired Girl Scout Cookie Drive, CCD Coordinator for the Church of the Good Shepherd, member of the Glen Burnie High School Band Boosters, assisting with Multiple Sclerosis bowling league, volunteer for the Damascus House and Fouse Center, establishing and leading the Glen Burnie High School Business Advisory Board for nine years and assisting with Harundale Presbyterian Church Free Lunch Program.
