Residents Moving to Cedar Crest Take Advantage of Booming Real Estate Market

May 17, 2017

People moving to Cedar Crest Retirement Community have been selling their Northern New Jersey homes quickly thanks to New Jersey's booming real estate market. According to Associated Press analysis, home prices in New Jersey are rising while housing inventory is at a 20-year low.

"We've had some bidding wars due to low inventory, which has benefited sellers moving to Cedar Crest in getting above asking price on occasion," said Personal Moving Consultant Anne Connor.  In the last six months, over 20 properties by incoming Cedar Crest residents sold in under one week.

Through the Erickson Realty and Moving Services program, Connor assists prospective Cedar Crest residents by connecting them with preferred realtors who are experts in the sale of homes in their specific neighborhoods.  Also, Connor travels to individual homes to assess future residents' particular needs and to help customize a plan for their approaching move.  Services include assisting with home staging, downsizing, clean-out and packing plans, hiring movers, and helping with furniture placement and decorating of their new home.

New residents are moving to Cedar Crest's from Northern Jersey including Morris, Sussex and Bergen Counties.

"Residents appreciate the worry-free lifestyle of Cedar Crest where they can enjoy their independence, free from the burdens of home ownership and maintenance," said Connor.

Cedar Crest resident Joyce Renner sold her former home in Pine Brook in three days. She moved to a two-bedroom apartment home on campus a few months ago.

"I am thrilled to be part of the Cedar Crest community. People are content and happy here," said Renner.

"There is always something going on," said Renner, who enjoys taking walks on campus and being a member of the community's knitting club.

"It is a good time to put your home on the market," said Connor. "Home inventory is down nearly 25% from this time last year, making it completely a seller's market."

Cedar Crest is one of 19 continuing care retirement communities managed by Erickson Living. The scenic 130-acre campus is located in Pompton Plains, New Jersey and is home to over 2,000 residents. The community offers abundant amenities, hundreds of clubs and activities, on-site restaurants, a state-of-the-art medical center, an all-season pool and a fitness center.
