Cedar Crest Residents Provide Annual Gifts to Staffers to Thank Them for Their Special Service Just in Time for Holidays

Fund Yields Nearly $262,000 for Hourly Employees Through Kindness of Residents Who Recognize Excellence and Compassion During Staff Appreciation Fund and nearly $1.9 Million Since Program Began a Decade Ago

POMPTON PLAINS, NJ - The wonderful relationship between the residents of Cedar Crest and the staff who work for them was once again demonstrated through the annual Staff Appreciation Fund, a program that recognizes employees for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.  A total of $261,544 was raised by residents for staffers this year.
Even in a down economic period, residents found it in their hearts to donate money to the staff members who work at the community on a day-to-day basis.  The money was disbursed to 837 hourly (full and part-time) employees at Cedar Crest who are employed in various departments, including dining services, transportation, security, general services and the nursing departments.
During the past 10 years, since the program began, a total of nearly $1.9 has been collected and given to the employees.  The Staff Appreciation Fund is an annual event and was developed as a way to reward employees, who are not permitted to accept tips or gifts of any kind.
Cedar Crest resident Dan Valerio said, "Our residents care so much about the staff who are part of the family at the community, and they are exceptional in so many different ways.  Residents not only show their support with the Staff Appreciation Fund, but also provide educational assistance through the successful Scholars' Fund---both programs illustrate our admiration toward the wonderful service that employees offer us."
The Scholars' Fund is a program that provides students who work at Cedar Crest with funding for their secondary college or trade school education. $750,000 has gone to pay for 155 student employees who are eligible for the fund since it began a decade ago.
"The residents are so generous for their financial support and recognition of the hard work our employees do, which is tremendous and it speaks volumes as to what helps make a community here at Cedar Crest," said Cathy Guttman, Executive Director.  "The residents annually show their appreciation to the staffers who help them regularly with a smile, and the Staff Appreciation Fund is one example of how they do whatever they can to help them where they can."
"The strong bond that residents and staff build here at the community is truly unmistakable," said Erica Zayat, Cedar Crest community services manager.  "Friendship and companionship is created within this community, and residents and staff share their own special gifts with one another which are the lifeblood of Cedar Crest."
The gift amount from the Staff Appreciation Fund that each employee receives is determined by a formula created by the community based on the staffers' number of years of service and hours worked.  One-hundred-percent of the funds donated are distributed to the staff members.
