Residents at Cedar Crest, an active retirement community in Pompton Plains, New Jersey, donated over 100 gifts to a local shelter in December. Gifts included toys, games, stuffed animals, shoes, clothing and coats. The drive is organized each year on campus by Cathy Matich, Gloria McCormick and other Cedar Crest residents.
A holiday party was held at the shelter on December 12. At the party, children met Santa, played games, and received candy canes. The presents were delivered secretly to the shelter so the mothers could give the presents to their children on Christmas day. In addition, each mother received a framed family portrait taken during the party.
"I always say that I love living at Cedar Crest, and now I also say that I am very proud to live here. The people here were very generous and made a lot of unfortunate mothers and children very happy again this year," said Cathy Matich.
