The fitness center, all-season swimming pool, pharmacy, salon, bank, country store, library, woodshop, worship center, games room and classrooms, putting green, walking paths, and gardening areas ensure community members have everything they need to stay physically, mentally, and socially active in every season.
One on-campus amenity, in particular, is key to accessing the best in senior health care and a healthy lifestyle.
The onsite medical center, staffed by full-time physicians and nurse practitioners who practice exclusively at Brooksby Village, provides a distinct level of geriatric expertise.
"One of the great features about living at Brooksby Village is the number of resources right on campus," said Executive Director Tracie Bettano. "You can walk down the hall from your apartment to the doctor's office."
The Erickson Health Medical Group [EHMG] is the largest and most completely integrated health and wellness system for older adults in the senior housing industry.
"That's the great benefit and value of being a Brooksby Village resident," said Bettano. "You're not just part of the Brooksby Village family; you benefit from being part of the Erickson Living network, as well."
More than 85 percent of Erickson Living residents across the nation use the onsite medical centers at their communities, which, to date, have offered 44,000 same day appointments, far exceeding the national average wait time for in-person appointments.
The average length of an appointment with an EHMG provider is 25 minutes, more than double the national average of 12 minutes, while 96 percent of after hour calls are returned within 10 minutes, including evenings and weekends.
"Residents and their families find great value and peace of mind in knowing that our full-time doctors, who are among the best in the retirement health care industry, are right on site and available whenever needed," noted Erickson Living's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Matt Narrett. "There is no doubt, our integrated health and wellness system is unmatched in the senior living industry and our communities have a culture of wellness where opportunities for healthy living abound."
Exceptional care steps from your apartment
Marie Barry, who moved to Brooksby Village in 2009, serves as the medical center liaison to the community's Resident Advisory Council.
"Living here at Brooksby with the medical services we have is the most reassuring thing," said Barry. "I feel secure knowing expert care is right here at the community."
According to Barry, two factors make Brooksby's medical center exceptional.
"The first is that you can be seen within 24 hours," she said. "It's comforting to know you can get a same-day appointment if you wake up and you're not feeling well. Brooksby has the full continuum of care on campus, so if you require hospital care, you have the option to be discharged to Brooksby for rehabilitative care. Then you can return to your apartment with nursing, physical therapy, and occupational therapy as prescribed, all offered right here at the community."
The second stand-out feature is the medical center's Care Path program, which allows residents to establish a relationship with the onsite providers, even if they wish to keep their primary care provider.
"Care Path is a remarkable program for those who want to keep their primary care doctor when they move to Brooksby," said Barry. "Residents can schedule an annual appointment with one of the doctors in the medical center to go over their medical history and medications. The medical center keeps an electronic copy of their records, so if they're ever unable to see their primary care doctor or they have an urgent need, Brooksby's providers can help them right away and then refer them back to their primary care physician."
Brooksby Village's approach to health and wellness incorporates innovative solutions for changing times. This year, the medical team is going door-to-door to resident apartments offering the flu vaccine. Providers are wearing full personal protective equipment to ensure the vaccines are administered in the safest manner possible.
"We're fortunate to have a dedicated team of medical professionals on campus who are always accessible to residents, whether they need an in-person visit to the medical center, a telehealth appointment, or even a house-call in their apartment," said Bettano. "Our whole-person approach to health care gives residents and their families peace of mind to know they're cared for at the highest level."
