Peabody, MA -- Flo Perkins, Brooksby Village resident, loves making quilts, but she wanted a challenge. After coming across an idea she saw in a book, she thought, why not make a quilt featuring all the U.S. Presidents.
"I have always enjoyed making quilts," said Perkins. "Years ago before I made this one I wanted a new challenge and a quilt featuring all the United States Presidents was the answer! It took me more than a year to complete it!"
The quilt, which measures 68 x 90 (each square is 9x9 with a 1 1/2 border) is currently on display at Brooksby Village. Each square features a U.S President and their faces are made using a form of embroidery called redwork. From their glasses, beards and mustaches, Perkins was able to make every U.S President's face.
Also on the quilt, is the U.S. Capital, the Unites States Seal, the White House and the American Flag.
"I finished the quilt years ago and when President Barack Obama got into office I added him to the quilt and then I just recently added President Donald Trump," said Perkins. "People at Brooksby Village stop me all the time asking how long it took to make and really enjoy looking at all the redwork embroidery."
Perkins has lived at Brooksby Village for 13 years. The quilt is on display the entire month of February at Brooksby Village.
Brooksby Village is a continuing care retirement community developed and managed by Erickson Living. The scenic 90 acre campus is located in Peabody, MA and is home to more than 1700 residents.
