The Afghan Group at Brooksby Village Celebrates 5 Years

February 23, 2012

Afghan group has made over 300 afghans for various local abused women shelters

Peabody, MA -After September 11, 2001, Beverly Kenworthy knew she had to do something to help others.  She looked in her local paper and read about how the Acton library was looking for people to sew afghans together for local abused women and their children.
10 years later she is celebrating the 5th Anniversary of the Afghan Group at Brooksby Village and she continues her goodwill with the help of 50 other women who also live at Brooksby Village.
Currently the group has made over 300 afghans for various local abused women shelters.
"We're glad they are able to use our afghans and we're able to help as many women as possible," said Kenworthy.  "We use bright colors so it brightens the lives of these women and their children.  I particularly wanted to help the children who are so vulnerable and part of our future.  The warm colorful afghans we hope bring a little joy to their lives."
When the afghans are complete, Kenworthy delivers them to various shelters including Our Father's House and HAWC.
