By 2007, construction was well under way at Ashby Ponds, the Erickson Living community in Ashburn, Va.  That year, Lyn transitioned to Ashby Ponds to become the community's Sales Director and was one of the very first staff members on site.  Now a bustling 132-acre community with about 900 residents, the community started out with an off-site sales center in Herndon, followed by trailers on the construction site for Lyn and the Sales Counselor, Dana Bradshaw.  One of her first orders of business was signing herself and her husband up on the Ashby Ponds priority list, which is available for people who are not ready to move in, but wish to be future residents.  Signing up on the priority list includes many perks, including invitations to private sales functions and the right of first refusal when an apartment home matching one's preferences comes on the market.

In 2008, Lyn and her husband moved from Springfield to a 55+ active adult community in Ashburn, just a short distance from Ashby Ponds.  There, they selected a newly constructed one-floor, two-bedroom, two-bath home.  "But I always knew I wanted to eventually be at Ashby Ponds," said Lubic.

In 2012, Lyn retired from Ashby Ponds, but not without significant contributions to the community.  She estimates that she helped move in over 500 residents at Ashby Ponds during her five years as Sales Director.  On October 24, 2014, Lyn and her husband decided to make the move she'd been talking about for years; they moved into their new home at Willow Crossing, the newest residential building at Ashby Ponds.  "For me, it really is like coming home," said Lubic.

The Lubics selected the popular Paxton floor plan, which includes two large bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a screened-in porch on the top floor of the building.  "The bedrooms are actually bigger than they were in our house," said Lubic.  Having been on the priority list for seven years, the Lubics certainly had their pick of apartment homes.

"The whole moving experience was everything I used to talk about," said Lubic.  "It was the easiest move I've ever made."  Those are strong words coming from a child of the military lifestyle; Lyn's father was a Navy pilot and as a child, her family moved many times before settling in Springfield.

"My daughter took some of our furniture and my son took our outdoor equipment: the snow-blower and lawn mower," said Lubic.  After all, she would not need outdoor equipment at Ashby Ponds; the community takes care of all snow plowing and clearing, landscaping, and managing the gazebos, ponds, and other outdoor amenities.

Now 63, Lyn is among the youngest residents at the community; residents have to be 62 years of age to move into continuing care retirement communities like Ashby Ponds in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Apart from waiting to reach the required age, Lyn cites many other reasons for deciding to make the move now.

"I'm a people person," said Lubic.  "My number one reason for wanting to move in was for the socialization."  For both her and her husband, the health care available at Ashby Ponds was also a critical factor.  "It was the time to have the serious conversation," said Lubic.  The Continuing Care neighborhood at Ashby Ponds opened just this year, and the Lubics knew any health care needs would be taken care of just a few steps away.  The Continuing Care neighborhood offers all higher levels of care including assisted living, post-acute rehabilitation, nursing care, and memory care.  Additionally, an on-site medical center is available at Ashby Ponds for residents to see practitioners and specialists right on campus.  A four-time survivor of brain cancer, Lyn knows how important it is to have convenient access to health and medical professionals.

Lyn is well aware that she brings a different perspective to the community than other residents.  "I've already signed up to be a resident ambassador," said Lubic.  A resident ambassador helps the sales team in sharing the story of the resident experience with future neighbors of the community.  As she gets her "resident legs" as she calls them, Lyn does plan to participate in more of the resident groups and activities available on campus.  "I'd like to begin crocheting again; I haven't done that for years," said Lubic.  "I'd also like to help with philanthropy efforts at the community and can't wait to get in the pool!"

Lyn has stuck by one of her own personal rules throughout her life.  "I only do it if I believe in it," she said.  "Moving here improves lives; I truly believe that."  She is certainly practicing what she preached.
