The Great Oak Clubhouse will feature 20,000 square-feet of amenities inclusive of a 200+ seat performing arts theater, the Acorn Café (a gourmet delicatessen), a banquet room for special events, a reading room, an art studio and gallery, additional classrooms, and a new control room for the community's in-house television station.

"The Great Oak Clubhouse will be a welcomed addition to the community, providing residents with even more on-campus amenities," said David Gallagher, Ashby Ponds' Executive Director.  "Residents will now be able to enjoy new community spaces including a fourth dining venue and several dedicated areas to showcase their many talents and interests."

Residents of Ashby Ponds have coordinated a three-day grand opening celebration for the clubhouse.  On the evening of Friday, May 29th, there will be a piano concert given by resident Barbara Hanson followed by a champagne reception.  Hanson, a native Washingtonian, has been playing the piano since the age of six and attended The  Peabody  Conservatory  of  Music  in  Baltimore.  On the afternoon of Saturday, May 30th, there will be a talent show featuring both resident and staff acts, including dancing, singing, comedy, drama, and more!  Finally, on Sunday, May 31st,  the Loudoun Jazz Ensemble will perform a variety of "Big Band" jazz pieces in the community's new performing arts theater.

"Our Entertainment Committee has been working since early January planning for the opening weekend celebration," said Ashby Ponds resident Phyllis Lynne. "We are especially looking forward to having the new performing arts center at the Great Oak Clubhouse. It will be a real benefit to our community and will be at the center of all the opening weekend activities."
