Delegate Tag Greason Shares Upcoming Session Proposals with Ashby Ponds Community

November 18, 2011

Virginia State Delegate Tag Greason visited the Ashby Ponds retirement community on Friday, November 18.  The resident Community Interest Committee invited Delegate Greason to speak on upcoming issues in the next session starting on January 12, as well as take questions from the community regarding state-wide concerns. Greason has been a member of the Virginia House of Delegates since January 2010 representing Virginia's 32nd district and was re-elected on November 8.

"The campaign season is over and it's now onto governing," said Greason in his introduction.   Greason shared some of the issues that may be addressed in the coming session including action on the proposed Federal Action Contingency Trust, a proposal that would put Virginia's budget surplus into a fund to assist with state tax revenue that could be lost due to federal cuts.
Additionally, Greason said that Virginia's retirement system may be seeing changes, as well.  He cited that there is a proposal to shift the current 5% retirement contribution currently paid by the Virginia state government to individual employees.  Should this pass, the changes would apply to new employees only after July 1, 2012.
Finally, Greason addressed an expected $477 million increase in Virginia's Medicare costs due in part to the proposed Federal Healthcare Law and also an increase in need from Virginia citizens.  Greason said he makes it a point to try to determine "who truly needs help when they can't help themselves."
