The community raised and donated funds for the Backpack Buddies program
According to their website, Backpack Buddies provides weekend, summer, and holiday meal packs to Loudoun County students receiving free or reduced-price school meals. Their mission is to "provide food insecure students of Loudoun County with healthy meals, nutritional education, and easy access to these resources by partnering with the congregation and community through awareness, education, and engagement." Each year, program volunteers pack and distribute over 12,600 meal packs to partner schools across Loudoun. The Backpack Buddies program was launched by Galilee United Methodist Church in Sterling in 2011. Today, they serve 320 students in three partner schools.
