Ashby Ponds’ Retired Educators Donate School Supplies to Area Children

August 24, 2015

(Ashburn, Va.) - As teachers, parents, and children prepare for the start of another school year, residents at Ashby Ponds are doing their part to make the transition a little easier.  For the past six years, a group of retired educators and former school employees at Ashby Ponds has provided school supplies to students headed back to the classroom.  The group, inclusive of more than 75 residents, collects funds and buys school supplies based on lists distributed by Loudoun County and Fairfax County.

This year, the group collected enough donated funds to provide school supplies to 145 children!  The beneficiaries of the school supplies are children of hourly employees at Ashby Ponds; each year, a day in August is dedicated at the community to providing these staff and their children the opportunity to select supplies from notebooks to glue sticks to backpacks!

About Ashby Ponds: Ashby Ponds, one of 18 retirement communities managed by Erickson Living, is situated on a scenic 132-acre campus in Ashburn, Virginia (approximately 30 miles west of Washington, D.C.).  The community is home to over 1000 residents and more than 120 resident-run and resident-driven clubs and groups, an indoor pool, a fitness club, transportation services, 24-hour security, and flexible dining options.
