Ashby Ponds Hosts Week-Long Celebration of Diversity

Ashburn, Virginia--Ashby Ponds may be nestled in beautiful Ashburn, Virginia, but for an entire week, the community celebrated a world-wide view.

The Erickson Living retirement community hosted Diversity Week, featuring special events that allowed residents and employees alike to learn about each other and embrace a multitude of perspectives.

Diversity Week was coordinated by the Ashby Ponds Diversity & Inclusion Resource Group, co-chaired by resident Suzanne Rudiselle and Facilities Manager Jaroslava Slaninova.  Highlights included a Fashion Show, an International Dance Festival and the Diversity Fair & Poetry Reading; activities occurred in both the independent and continuing care neighborhoods.  

Ashby Ponds was honored to welcome Deb Doyle, Chief Operating Office of Erickson Living, who talked about her background and career experiences.  All told, the week was rich with incredible music, food and literature that represented countries of interest and origin.

"Our residents and employees are proud of growing diversity in the community as we strive to make everyone feel welcomed and loved for who they are," said Mrs. Slaninova.  "The Diversity and Inclusion Resource Group is actively working on hosting even more events such as Diversity Week in the future to educate and enhance the quality of life for everyone."

The Ashby Ponds Diversity and Inclusion Resource Group, composed of residents and staff, seeks to foster a diverse and inclusive culture and champion initiatives to ensure every person is treated with respect and dignity.  It promotes an engaging workplace by increasing awareness through education, training and fostering an inclusive work environment.
