The grand opening celebration included demonstrations and refreshments of pickles, of course!
On June 27, Ann's Choice, an Erickson Living retirement community in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, held a grand opening celebration for its new pickleball court on campus. More than 85 residents and staff attended the fun event which included a ribbon cutting, demonstrations, and refreshments of delicious pickles.
At the celebration, Pennsylvania Pickle Ball Ambassador Stan Shumaker presented the rules, scoring, and played a game on the new court.
The pickleball courts are located next to the tennis courts on Ann's Choice 103-acre campus. The game is played with a paddle and a ball with plastic holes. It can be played as singles or doubles.
"Residents are thrilled to have a pickleball court on campus," said Fitness Manager Beth Muller. "It is a wonderful game for our residents as well as their family members since it is easy to learn and is accessible for people of all ages and fitness levels."
Muller said that the many residents have been playing the popular sport for years at a local park and the resident-run Pickleball Club has been instrumental in spreading the word about the court and game to the Ann's Choice community.
The pickleball club is one of 150 resident-run clubs and activities at Ann's Choice. Other activities include arts and crafts, cultural, educational, games, music, social, travel, volunteering, fitness, and more.
