Ann's Choice Political Interest Group Hosts Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick in Conversation About Security Following Deaths of Mommar Gadhafi and Osama bin Laden

October 24, 2011

WARMINSTER, PA - Earlier today, U.S. Representative Mike Fitzpatrick held a special discussion at the Ann's Choice retirement community to talk about issues of anti-terror efforts and what the U.S. government is doing to keep the country safe in the wake of the deaths of Moammar Gadhafi and Osama bin Laden.
The forum was sponsored by the non-partisan Political Interest Group, which holds various discussion events and hosts a wide array of speakers who talk about current events.
Also on hand were members of the Ann's Choice Veterans' Club and Ann's Choice Constitution Club.  All in attendance asked pointed, informative and timely questions related to the current issues concerning national security and the current conflicts in the Middle East.
"I welcome the news that the decades-long reign of Col. Muammar Gaddafi, one characterized by fear and oppression, has finally come to an end," Representative Fitzpatrick said.  "His death marks an important step for the Libyan people and the National Transitional Council along the road to a free and independent Libya.  I remain hopeful that the Libyan people will unite behind a free, secular and democratic government and not fall prey to extremists who may seek to hijack their revolution."
Representative Fitzpatrick continued, "I look forward to the possibility of strengthening our ties with a new Libyan regime.  While our military involvement in Libya should come to a swift end, we must continue to work with the new Libyan government to secure unaccounted-for weapons which have the potential to fall into the hands of terrorists or their backers.  The death of Col. Gaddafi represents a victory for Libya, but it does not mean the end of the struggle for economic and political security for its people."
"It certainly is an important discussion and topic," said Sally Rosen-Plon, president of the Ann's Choice Political Group.  "Everyone should be interested in issues of national security and what our government is doing to protect us, and an event like this helps us learn about the process and gives us a voice."
Ann's Choice Executive Director Joseph LoCascio said, "Events like today's roundtable discussion are important because they provide our residents with a voice in the political process.  Those who live at Ann's Choice are very informed about current events and care about issues that not only occur within this community, but happen locally, nationally and globally."
Following the conversation with residents, Congressman Fitzpatrick helped raise an American Flag at the Ann's Choice Liberty Commons Clubhouse.  This flag, which once flew proudly over the United States Capitol Building, will be an important reminder of the service of Ann's Choice residents who sacrificed so much to protect the U.S. during times of war.
