WARMINSTER, PA – As the country prepares to acknowledge soldiers this Veterans Day, a special group of Ann's Choice residents have been busy working for our wounded warriors who have lost limbs due to battle in conflicts in the Middle East.
The Ann's Choice "Knit Wits" are a group of approximately 60 seniors dedicated to serving wounded troops who have dedicated so much of themselves in the face of war.
The knitters began working in January and to date, have created an amazing 1,500 handmade knitted pieces which will go to wounded soldiers at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.
This Sunday, November 9th beginning at 3:30 p.m., nearly all of the "Knit Wits" will finalize the first phase of this exceptional endeavor by packing up the stockings along with hand-written thank you cards for the vets that acknowledge their tremendous service to our country and for making the ultimate sacrifice.
In addition, approximately 30 Ann's Choice residents who are veterans that served in the military years ago and fought in various wars, engagements and conflict, including World War II, Korean War and Vietnam will assist the "Knit Wits" in packing the knitted items.
Also on hand will be approximately a half-dozen recent veterans currently living in the Delaware Valley who have served in the Middle East theatre of war over the past decade. These soldiers, who will be dressed in full uniform from their branch of the military, will be on hand to thank the "Knit Wits," the Ann's Choice senior veterans, share their military stories and even write some thank you cards as well.
An official Honor Guard and the singing of the National Anthem will kick this event off that begins at 3:30 p.m.
This past April, United States Representative Mike Fitzpatrick, who represents Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District, recognized the "Knit Wits" group by presenting them an official U.S. House of Representatives Proclamation that was entered into the Congressional Record on the floor of the United States House of Representatives.
The congressman personally thanked the members of the "Knit Wits" by surprising them with a visit and to read them the proclamation (SEE YOUTUBE VIDEO OF KNIT WITS RECEIVING PROCLAMATION FROM CONGRESSMAN FITZPATRICK THIS PAST APRIL HERE: Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick Acknowledges Knit Wits in April).
The "Knit Wits" special packing, shipping and thanking event will take place in the community's Keystone Clubhouse Multi-purpose Room. Ann's Choice is located at 30000 Ann's Choice Way, Warminster, PA 18974.
